Have fun to the finish! This challenging swim, bike and run event is designed to push physical limits and endurance while enjoying the camaraderie and competitiveness of fellow athletes. At 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, at The Cove, Sierra Vista's Aquatic Center, entrants will open the Hummingbird Triathlon with an 800-yard swim, continue with a 13-mile bike ride and finish with a 5K run. Registration check-in for the race will begin an hour earlier, at 5:00 a.m., at the Aquatic Center at 2900 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, Sierra Vista.
Information packets may be picked up and registration completed at the Oscar Yrun Community Center, the Ethel Berger Center or at The Cove in Sierra Vista. Participants may compete as individuals or in teams in eight age divisions, from under 13 years of age to over 60. The registration fee is $35.00 for an individual and $65 for a team. A $5.00 late entry fee will be assessed after 4:00 p.m., Friday, August 25.
Traditionally, this race has drawn over 100 competitors, with the youngest, to date, at nine years old and the eldest at seventy-one; this year, over 150 individual and team challengers are anticipated. Trophies and medallions will be awarded to top finishers with free t-shirts for all entrants. Participants are encouraged to stay after the event to enjoy refreshments and relive the spirit of the challenge.
