The San Pedro River features some of the richest wildlife habitat in the United States. Here you'll find 82 species of mammals, dozens of reptiles and
amphibians and nearly 350 species of birds. It is the last free flowing river in the Southwest and has been designated one of the Last Great Places by the Nature Conservancy.
There is no charge for the walks, however donations are accepted to support the docent programs. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring drinking water and use sun protection. For more information call (520) 459-2555.

Interpretive Walk at FairbankJoin the Friends of the San Pedro River for an interpretive walk at the Fairbank Historic Townsite in the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Fairbank was an important transportation hub during the silver boom in and around Tombstone and continued as a railroad junction until just a few years ago. The restored Fairbank Schoolhouse will bring back memories of all the one-room schoolhouses of the American West. The walk will be about three miles and take about two and one half hours (although there are several turn-around points for those who want a shorter walk). Meet at the Fairbank Schoolhouse (the parking area is about one quarter mile east of the San Pedro River on Highway 82) at 8 AM. Be prepared for the warm weather with good shoes, water, and a hat. Bird Walk at the EOPThe Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (EOP), also known as the
waste water treatment plant, is open for bird walks each Sunday morning.
The walks take about 2 hours and are led by docents from Southeastern
Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO), Huachuca Audubon Society (HAS) and the
Friends of the San Pedro River (FSPR).
The next walks begin at 7 a.m. and depart from the viewing platform inside the EOP. The entrance is located on SR 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are FREE, although SABO, HAS and FSPR all accept donations.
The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be

Hummingbird Banding at Fort HuachucaThe public is invited to get an up-close look at the catch, band, weigh, measure and release of the birds for research purposes at the gazebo on Brown Parade Field, Fort Huachuca. Note: Fort Huachuca is an active military installation and specific entrance requirements are enforced. US citizens may enter the post with a visitor pass, received from the guardhouse at the Main Gate. Hike the Boquillas Section of San Pedro TrailJoin the Friends of the San Pedro River for a hike south on the San Pedro Trail to the historic Boquillas Ranch and the ruins of Boston Mill. Explore the
stonework foundation of this 19th century ore-processing mill. Our return hike north will lead us along the river. Meet at Fairbank parking lot at 7:00 a.m. Wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes; bring plenty of water and snacks, if desired. (8 miles, rated moderate.) For more information call 520-459-2555.

Nature Walk at Ramsey Canyon PreserveVisitors from all over the world come to see the more than 170 species of birds found in the preserve and surrounding national forest. Southwestern specialties such as painted redstarts and magnificent hummingbirds share the canyon with many other animals, including mountain lions, canyon treefrogs, rattlesnakes, and dozens of species of butterflies. The canyon is also home to more than 400 species of plants, from tiny mosses to towering firs. Guided nature walks are conducted Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM, March through October. Admission to the Preserve is $5; $3 for Cochise County residents. 27 E. River Walk at the San PedroJoin docents from the Friends of the San Pedro River on interpretive walks along the river each Saturday in July. The walks depart from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista at 8:00am.
The San Pedro River features some of the richest wildlife habitat in the United States. Here you'll find 82 species of mammals, dozens of reptiles and
amphibians and nearly 350 species of birds. It is the last free flowing river in the Southwest and has been designated one of the Last Great Places by the Nature Conservancy.
There is no charge for the walks, however donations are accepted to support the docent programs. Dress appropriately for the weather, bring drinking water and use sun protection. For more information call (520) 459-2555.
Bird Walk at the San PedroBirders of all levels are invited to participate in upcoming bird walks sponsored by the Friends of the San Pedro River. A walk is scheduled for July 25 and departs from the San Pedro House, 9800 E. Hwy. 90, Sierra Vista at 7 a.m. There is no charge for the walks, however, donations are accepted to support docent programs. For more information call 459-2555.

Hummingbird Banding at Fort HuachucaThe public is invited to get an up-close look at the catch, band, weigh, measure and release of the birds for research purposes at the gazebo on Brown Parade Field, Fort Huachuca. Note: Fort Huachuca is an active military installation and specific entrance requirements are enforced. US citizens may enter the post with a visitor pass, received from the guardhouse at the Main Gate. Required documentation includes: vehicle registration and insurance, as well as current and valid photo identification for driver and all passengers over the age of 13.
Sunday Afternoon Lecture Series at Carr House"Who Do We Share the Mountains With?" Brad Fulk from Arizona Game and Fish will give us a slideshow and overview of the mammals of the Huachucas and the ecosystem that allows them to exist and thrive here. 1:30 p.m. Carr House (south of Sierra Vista on Hiway 92, turn right on Carr Canyon Road at the Mesquite Tree Restaurant, drive 2.1 miles to Carr House, on the left after a concrete dip in the road). Bird Walk at the EOPThe Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (EOP), also known as the
waste water treatment plant, is open for bird walks each Sunday morning.
The walks take about 2 hours and are led by docents from Southeastern
Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO), Huachuca Audubon Society (HAS) and the
Friends of the San Pedro River (FSPR).
The next walks begin at 7 a.m. and depart from the viewing platform inside the EOP. The entrance is located on SR 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are FREE, although SABO, HAS and FSPR all accept donations.
The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be

San Pedro Avian Resource Center Bird BandingBird banding takes place in the spring and fall for migratory and resident birds, and focuses on breeding birds in the summer through the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) banding program. Information such as lifespan, how far and where the bird travels, and increases and declines in populations can be seen from the analysis of banding data.
